The game is actually fairly short in length from beginning to end (an average of 6 hours). There are no item combination puzzles here that might have assisted in making it a bit more challenging. Most of the puzzles are pretty much comprised of using a certain item in the right place at the right time. The majority of gamers will find the puzzles to be just right and logical (that's right folks, a logical adventure game). The puzzles aren't very difficult and advanced adventure gamers might find them to be a bit too direct and sometimes degrading to their big-brained nature.
The experience that one attains from the game can be best described as that of a fun suspense flick with gamer participation thrown in for good measure. A few may feel that the heavy use of cut scenes is a bit redundant, but within an hour of playing the game they'll realize that this is where the game actually excels. Shadow of Destiny's fascinating tale is unveiled with the very effective utilization of in-game cut scenes. Just make sure you have a game pad in hand as this game is not a very keyboard-friendly game. Getting Eike around the screen is fairly simple and should be a breeze to get comfortable with. What it does bring with it however, is a living, breathing 3D world.
The game is a straightforward adventure game minus the static backgrounds and spectacular voice acting that most PC adventure gamers are used to. You won't be shooting, dodging, strafing, or using quick time combos here.
Due to the time-traveling feature, many objectives can be accomplished in non-linear ways, branching the storyline and eventually resulting in eight different endings, six of which can be achieved during the first playthrough, and two others unlocked after having reached the other six.Shadow of Destiny is an adventure game in every essence of the word. If Eike fails to achieve the goal at hand within the allotted time and prevent his murder, the chapter must be restarted.ĭuring the course of the game the player will have several choices and opportunities to change the future in various ways. Time-traveling requires energy units, which can be found by exploring the town. Obtaining a crucial item, having a conversation with a specific character, or performing another action in the past will prevent Eike from getting killed. This is mainly achieved by traveling through time to different hours, days, years, and even centuries. Each chapter has a time limit, during which Eike has to find a way to prevent the murderer from killing him.
There are no action elements in the game, and the protagonist has no health bar. Shadow of Memories (Shadow of Destiny in North America) is an adventure game. In order to alter the course of events, preventing the unknown person from carrying out his murder, Eike will have to travel back in time as far as the 16th century, meeting people closely connected to his own existence and changing the fabric of reality. From that moment on, Eike's miraculously acquired second chance turns into a constant race against time, as he tries to escape from his destiny. Homunculus gives Eike a time-travelling device and brings him back to life a short while before his murder took place. A mysterious being known as Homunculus tells Eike that he has been stabbed to death.
